This painting is part of my Still Life series, they are based on bowls, cups and mugs that I have been given over the years. They are part of my everyday life. Each one is associated with various memories.
I am interested in representing other people’s choices that have been brought into my world. I view them as “ready-mades”. The vessels are depicted through the structure of 1970’s Expos’ baseball cards. The player’s photos, names and logos have all been cut out of the cards removing their identities. Growing up in the 1970’s in Montreal it was common to see languages painted over, crossed out or cut out.
